The Stadtbad Schöneberg – Hans Rosenthal – is after the big public pool at Landsberger Allee in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg the most popular pool in Berlin. It offers beside a 25-meter lap pool with a diving board also an area for families and children with a slide and outdoor pools. Also provided are a salt water pool and hot tubs.
Between Juli 2009 and January 2012 Stadtbad Schöneberg underwent a core removal and was refurbished on the inside from scratch. The big reopening took place in 2012 and the Berlin Swimming Pool Authority dedicated the listed building to the late German showmaster Hans Rosenthal. It was in this swimming pool on Schöneberg’s Hauptstraße that Hans Rosenthal learned to how to swim – however only when he was an adult, since in his youth jews were not allowed into public pools during the Nazi regime.
Ever since its reopening, the listed building equipped with an outside pool with flow passage, a large slide (53 m), a saltwater pool and a kids’ pool, bears the name of Hans Rosenthal. The pool has already reopened for the fall season 2016.
